Once you delete your Gmail account, you'll still be able to log in to your Google account using an alternative email address. Before getting started, visit Google Takeout to safely download all the data from your Gmail and Google accounts. Depending on how much you've stored, this might take some time.

Most Android devices rely on a Google Account for activation. In an effort to make devices more secure if your device is lost or stolen, Google has implemented a security feature for Android called Factory Reset Protection (FRP). While this is a useful security feature, it can also be a real pain if you don't remember the Google name and password that was used to set up the device. Within your Google account settings, there is a tool called "My Activity." In this tool, you can see all your search data and online activity. Here, you can edit your account settings or delete the stored data. In order to enter the "My Activity" dashboard, simply go to Google's homepage and go to the upper-right corner. According to Google, deleting your Gmail account means: Your Gmail address can't be used by you or anyone else in the future. Your emails will be deleted. To edit the info that you use on Google services, like your name and photo, sign in to your account. You can also choose what personal info to show when you interact with others on Google services.

If you delete your Google account, you will no longer have an account on the properties Google directly controls: search, gmail and Youtube, for example.
